Career Mapping
gives you a road map to figuring out what you really want to do with your work life and then specific directions on how to get there. No matter what phase of your career you are in – climbing the corporate ladder, launching a new business, soul searching in anticipation of retirement, or just starting out –Ginny delivers expert guidance on how to get what you really want. Each chapter presents thought-provoking questions, candid revelations from Ginny’s own inspiring journey and vital advice from her experiences placing more than 300 executives in top level jobs.

Clarke explains the oft-misunderstood executive search process and demystifies how you can make yourself a more desirable job candidate – as well as how to avoid the devastating pitfalls that have derailed careers. She not only addresses finding that perfect job or career, she lays out plans for overcoming roadblocks, negotiating and then navigating successfully once you’re in the job, and using the most-neglected tool of all: an ongoing self-assessment to be sure your career is aligned with your current priorities and talents.

Ginny’s holistic and practical career mapping approach to success can be used for any stage of a job search, career climb, or work/life balancing act.

Each chapter of her forthcoming book Career Mapping ends with savvy tips targeted toward Entry Level,
Mid-Level, Executive Level, and Encore Level job seekers:

If you are at:

Entry Level - Avoid overreaching for roles you aren’t ready for. Never overstate or lie about credentials “just this once” to get in the door. (Several surveys show that about half of all candidates have done exactly that. Any dishonesty on your résumé gives an employer grounds for immediate dismissal.) Honesty reigns and your time will come for even greater things than what you are doing.

Mid-Level - At this level job-hopping often starts in earnest in an effort to get farther faster. The reality is there are few, if any, shortcuts. Especially in this day and age, you may well have to put in the time before moving to the next level.

Executive Level - Don’t get too full of yourself. Neglecting feedback, believing your own hype and/or failing to consciously seek to hone your skills can derail the most promising executives.

Encore Level - Don’t go away quietly. Know that you have much to offer – in the right venue. Your challenge is to find that place where you are welcome and valued for your expertise. Any organization that might discriminate on the basis of age is not worthy of your offerings.

Career Mapping offers case studies of people at different stages of their careers, and provides a step-by-step approach to customized job hunting — including the new rules of social networking – as well as career management strategies. This practical, wise guide will help you close the gap between who you are and the career of your dreams.
