Read Time:2 Minute, 31 Second

Are you looking for an exciting change of pace? Tired of working in jobs that you don’t enjoy? Well then perhaps it’s time for a change! In this article, we’re going to take a look at what you need to become a qualified tree surgeon! It’s not for everyone, but if you’re a lover of the great outdoors and you want to go home every day feeling as though you’ve earned your money, then this is definitely worth a read!

What qualities do you need?

Again, becoming an arborist isn’t for everyone. However, if you have the qualities listed below, then you’ll fit right in!

A passion for the environment

Contrary to popular belief, being a tree surgeon isn’t just about cutting down trees. People believe that arborists are destructive when in fact, they’re care takers. Yes indeed, there will be no shortage of trees to cut down and chop up. However, it’s always done with good reason. But there’s a great deal else involved, such as caring and tending to trees and promoting healthy future growth.

Physical health

Yes, much of your strength will be gained on the job. However, you need to be a relatively strong and healthy build in order to become a successful arborist. There’s a lot of heavy-duty work involved and if you’re not up to the task then you’ll fall behind.

Endurance

If you don’t like the idea of working outside in heavy rain and blistering heat, then being a tree-surgeon is definitely not for you. You need to have a strong attitude and the endurance to persevere through the difficult times. But don’t worry, it’s worth it!

The ability to work well with others

Very few tree arborists work alone. Can you imagine taking down a 50-foot tree without any help? You’ll be surrounded by colleagues who will be relying on you to communicate well, and to be patient with one another. The second you start ignoring one another, is when accidents happen. In order to succeed as an arborist, you need to be able to communicate well and listen even better.

Patience and dedication

Whilst much of what you need to know will come from experience on the job, you’ll need to study hard if you wish to become a qualified arborist. There are many levels for you to progress through, and if you wish to thrive in a successful arborist company; you’ll need to have patience and dedication!
